4 Tips to Improve Your PPC Campaigns

1. Bid for Positions that Fit Your Site and Your Budget. First things first, decide which keywords you want to list for and which search engines you want to be listed in – and place your bid. Depending on your specific site and your site’s content, you may do better by bidding for more long-tail keywords that are tailored to your site and your specific audience.

2. #1 Doesn’t Always Win the Race. Many times it is not worth the energy and resources to list #1 when the price for a slightly lower listing is significantly cheaper. Top listings frequently draw compulsive clickers who do not convert. Listing #1 could also get you in a bidding war with an ego bidder. If you spend a little less and list # 2 instead you might see that your traffic is actually more targeted and your conversion rates may improve. The only way to know what will happen at various positions is to test, test, test.

3. Don’t Accept Just Any Listing. If your bid is placed in the #47 spot, it may not be worth your time, energy and resources to accept this bid. Rather than pay to list in a lower spot that will likely be off the radar for profitability, you may be better off to refocus your efforts on another listing or alter your campaign to list higher.

4. Observe and Learn from Higher Ranking Bids. If your site is not listing in the top 10 listings, take a look at the ads that are and see what they’re doing differently. You may be able to learn new ways to optimize your ads and list higher for your desired keywords. For example, if the top 4 search results for Overture list on other engines then it is a good idea to list at #3 or #4. As people scroll down the list of ads they are more pre-qualified when they click on yours. You will get less traffic, but it will likely convert at a much better rate.
